The
characteristic thermal mud of
the Euganean area is composed by
a solid part (argil and humus),
a liquid part (hyper-thermal
bromidic iodic salt water) and
an organic one (micro-flora
constituted by colonies of algae,
protozoa, bacteria and the
products of their degradation).
Before it can be used with a
therapeutic purpose, thermal mud
must undergo a long maturation
process inside specific tubs.

During this process, by being in
contact with thermal water and
sun, the mud acquires the
biological and physical chemical
characteristics that change it
into a proper medicine,
registered at a European level,
and used in the therapy of
osteoarthritis and rheumatic
diseases.
Mud-therapy is a natural healing
method that is still very
effective in the prevention and
treatment of osteoarthritis and
of a variety of rheumatic pain.
The application of thermal mud
produces an anti-inflammatory,
analgesic and decontracting
action on the muscles; this
makes it ideal in the treatment
of cervical and lumbar pain,
osteoarthritis of hips and knees,
fibromyalgia, consequences of
traumas, fractures, and as
prevention of osteoporosis.
Because of its action on the
microcirculation, mud-therapy
can be used in the treatment of
obesity, cellulite, and skin
ageing.
The thermal mud used at the
Quisisana Wellness Centre is
certified by the University of
Padova with a QUALITY assurance
label for MATURE MUD.
The action of the thermal vapour
is complementary to the mud
therapy in the curing of
arthritis, and is also suggested
to be effective in the fight
against some metabolism diseases
(especially hyperuricaemia),
obesity, rhinosinusitis, and
chronic bronchitis.
